====== Consciousness ====== In philosophy wp>consciousness has long been considered the central mystery of the mind. We use the concept of analysis:mind:story to encompass the more uniquely human aspects of consciousness. Semantically, this avoids confusion with other meanings of the word, especially the common sense of "not being unconscious" (being aware of our surroundings and responding.) More importantly, preferring "story" gives a distinctive spin that is consonant with our adoption of interpreter_theory and user_interface_analogy and also with the argumentative theory of the evolution of consciousness. Intuitive views of consciousness and tag:reason are based on introspection, and vastly underplay the creative and inferential nature of self-understanding (see naive_realism) because most of what goes on in our minds is inaccessible to us (see unconscious).
